Just as the water and waves can both be categorized under the label of “ocean”, likewise knower and known can be categorized under the label of “experience”. Consider any known as being an effulgent extension of the knower itself like a wave being an extended manifestation of the ocean’s water. Because no separation can be found between any experience and the knower of it, it might be suggested that they are two conceptualized aspects of a single reality: knower and known are indivisibly “one” and always have been. What is being experienced are the manifesting potentials of the knower itself, not something coming from an external source. In quantum physics it would be stated that the “wave function” of any known (which determines what will appear next with what specific characteristics), is within the “ eye of the beholder “, the knower. The characteristics of any object of experience extend spatially from the observer, and are the observer, and are not independently existing apart from the observer or as objectively real. Hence the possibility of clairvoyance, a future “known” being prematurely revealed before its full manifestation to the sensory organs. This also explains when certain significant information is revealed in dreams. In other words, reality or experience is an unfolding from within the knower, as extensions of its own inner subconscious potentials. In Dzogchen meta-cosmology, it begins with an appearance of the “five lights” which are either seen as the extensions of one’s own self-nature as being the knower or not. If not, then the dualistic illusion of their being something “other” arises. Then the dualistic visions begin of the illusory separation existing between the knower and what’s known. Any known is actually how the knower is appearing. When the knowns are considered to be “other” than the knower itself, the dualistic distortions called samsara arise. When the direction of the creative flow of attention is directed backward into the knower, from which it itself is arising AS the knowns, the knowns transform back into being the nature of the knower, like ice melting into water.
